Biography

Sarah Churchill was a British actress and dancer, of American descent. She was born in London in 1914. She was the 3rd child and 2nd daughter born to politician Winston Churchill (1874-1965) and his wife Clementine Ogilvy Hozier (1885 -1977). Sarah's father would eventually serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (term 1940-1945, 1951-1955), and Sarah's mother became a life peer in her own right with the title of "Baroness Spencer-Churchill". Sarah was named after her distant ancestor Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (1660-1744). The elder Sarah was a prominent figure in British political history, as a close friend and royal favorite of Anne, Queen of Great Britain (1665-1714, reigned 1702-1714) and an influential member of the Whig (liberal) political faction. The younger Sarah was born to a well-connected, but somewhat disreputable line of British nobility.
