Biography

"I am a liar who always tells the truth." (paraphrasing the poet Jean Cocteau). Ricardo Darín is an Argentine actor, producer, and director. His outstanding career in film has led him to international recognition. He debuted in theater without academic training, and at the age of 16, he managed to establish himself in Argentine television, where he began to gain popularity. He achieved his place in the Argentine film industry in Nine Queens (2000) playing, along with Gastón Pauls, a pair of swindlers who embody the Argentine "viveza" to execute their deceptions. He starred in Son of the Bride (2001), the second Argentine film to receive an Oscar nomination. However, it was not until 2009 that he won a statuette, with Secret in Their Eyes (2009), winning the award for Best Foreign Language Film. This film also earned him the Silver Condor Award for Best Actor, and his first Goya nomination in the same category. His other notable successes include Wild Tales (2014) and Argentina, 1985 (2022), a film that tells the famous "Trial of the Juntas" following the dictatorship that ruled Argentina from 1976 to 1983. Known for his "naturalness", achieved through a complex technique, he creates very attractive and representative characters of his country.
