Biography

Sam Rockwell is an American actor whose career bridges indie films, blockbusters, and acclaimed stage work. Born in California in 1968 to actor parents, trained at New York’s William Esper Studio, he first drew notice in Box of Moonlight (1996) and Lawn Dogs (1997), later gaining recognition in The Green Mile and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. His performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, followed by a second nomination for Vice (2018). He was Emmy-nominated for portraying Bob Fosse in Fosse/Verdon (2019), and in 2025 he received another nod for The White Lotus. A longtime stage actor with LAByrinth Theater, Rockwell was Tony-nominated for American Buffalo (2022). He continues to alternate between film, television, and theater with a reputation for fearless, unpredictable performances.
