Sam Neill is a Northern Ireland–born New Zealand actor whose career bridges art-house cinema and Hollywood blockbusters with remarkable ease. After studying at Victoria University of Wellington, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on philosophy, he began acting with the New Zealand National Film Unit before gaining attention in My Brilliant Career (1979). International recognition came with his iconic portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park (1993), followed by acclaimed turns in The Piano (1993).
