Biography

An American actress, her career began at the age of three with some modeling work and appearances in commercials. Her film debut was at age 6 with an uncredited role in the 'Oedipus Wrecks' segment of Woody Allen's 1989 film "New York Stories". Her first starring role came in 1994 with the film "Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles" (1994) alongside Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, a role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination, the MTV Award for Best Breakthrough Performance, and the Saturn Award for Best Young Actress. In the following years, she starred in other critically acclaimed and successful titles such as "Little Women" (1994), "Jumanji" (1995) and "Little Soldiers" (1998). She worked with director Sofia Coppola in the drama "The Virgin Suicides" (1999), playing Lux Lisbon, one of several troubled teenage sisters. In 2000, she starred in "Bring It On", an internationally successful comedy. In 2002, she landed one of her most important and recognizable roles to date playing Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's love interest in "Spider-Man" (2002). She continued her role in "Spider-Man 2" (2004) and "Spider-Man 3" (2007). Subsequently, he participated in several renowned projects such as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004), the romantic comedy "Wimbledon" (2004), and Cameron Crowe's "Elizabethtown" (2005). She also played the title character in Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" (2006). Dunst won the Best Actress Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for her performance as Justine in Lars von Trier's "Melancholia" (2011).
