Born in Belgium and raised in Holland during World War II, she began her career in ballet before moving into modeling and then acting in various West End musical theatre productions. After her success in British cinema and her role in the Broadway production of Gigi (1951), Hepburn leaped to Hollywood stardom with her Oscar-winning performance in "Roman Holiday" (1953), and later on for "Sabrina" (1954), "A Nun's Tale" (1959), "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961) with that classic black dress and pearls ensemble, "Charade" (1963), "My Fair Lady" (1964) and "Wait Until Dark" (1967).
