Born in 1972 in San Diego to a Cuban-American father and German mother, Cameron Diaz describes herself as adventurous and independent. She embarked on a globetrotting journey at 16 and returned to California at 21, where she dabbled in modeling before landing a breakthrough role in "The Mask" (1994), opposite Jim Carrey, which marked the beginning of her rising career. She rose to fame in romantic comedies, most notably in "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997), opposite Julia Roberts, and "There's Something About Mary" (1998), which cemented her as an icon of the 1990s.
