Rick Moranis began his artistic formation in Canada working as a radio disc jockey under the name “Rick Allan,” recording for multiple Toronto stations. He then collaborated with writers and performers in sketch comedy, including live performances and television pilots, before joining a Canadian sketch-television ensemble. His working methods included developing comedic characters, sometimes co-writing and performing sketches, and doing voice-over work. Moranis later expanded into recording music, releasing albums combining comedy and song. After a period focusing on raising his children following the death of his spouse, he largely reduced live-action screen appearances, but continued with voice acting and musical work.
