Biography

“I love independent filmmaking. I don't agree with a lot of it, but that's the point.” Recognized as one of the last divas of Hollywood's Golden Age, Gena Rowlands has a prolific and outstanding career. Always betting on honest and real interpretations, she has known how to combine methodical and improvisational tools to face some of the most iconic female roles in the history of modern cinema, such as Mabel Longhetti in "A Woman Under the Influence" (1974) or Myrtle Gordon in "Opening Night" (1977); both directed by her husband, John Cassavetes, together with whom she greatly collaborated to the development of American independent cinema. Vivacious, innovative, versatile and endearing, Rowlands won a Silver Bear, two Golden Globes, two Emmys and the Honorary Oscar, in addition to dozens of nominations for the most prestigious awards for her various roles.
