Biography

"""I've always thought of zombies as a revolution, a generation consuming the next one."" George Andrew Romero was an American film director, screenwriter, and editor, recognized as the creator of the zombie archetype in pop culture. Influenced by Michael Powell and Orson Welles, he made films with an 8 mm camera during his childhood. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, he began his film career by making short films, commercials, and working on television. In 1968, he made his directorial debut with Night of the Living Dead. The characteristics of his zombies became the foundation of the subgenre and influenced countless films and video games. Years later, the saga continued with Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Day of the Dead (1985). His films explore various themes, such as consumerism, militarization, and class struggle. Beyond his iconic zombie saga, he directed other horror and fantasy films, including The Crazies (1973), Martin (1976), and Creepshow (1982). Throughout his career, Romero received multiple awards at the Sitges Film Festival, including a lifetime achievement recognition. His innovative approach and social criticism made him a key influence in horror cinema, inspiring generations of filmmakers and genre enthusiasts."
