"If you are brave enough to try something, even your own destruction, you can eventually succeed." Takeshi Kitano is a multifaceted and unpredictable artist. Before developing as a director, he worked as a comedian, actor and host of popular Japanese television programs, noticeable facets in his film career. His style is characterized by the reversion of typically Japanese topics and a challenging visual structure that encourages active viewing. He is considered, along with Takashi Miike, a renovator of contemporary Japanese cinema of international renown with awards such as the Golden Lion for Best Film for his work "Hana-bi" (1997) or the Silver Lion for Best Director and the award for Best Film at Sitges Festival for "Zatoishi" (2003).
