Ethan Coen

Ethan Coen is an American filmmaker, writer, and producer whose career spans independent and major Hollywood productions. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he frequently collaborates with his older brother, Joel Coen. In early projects, Ethan primarily produced while Joel directed, with both sharing writing and editing credits under the pseudonym Roderick Jaynes; since 2004, they jointly manage writing, directing, producing, and editing. Ethan’s work also includes writing for other directors. His career reflects a mastery of storytelling that combines meticulously crafted narratives, often eccentric characters with dark humor and inventive cinematic techniques that subvert genre expectations. He has been married to Tricia Cooke, an assistant editor on several of their films, since 1990.
