Charles Dance is an English actor who works across stage, film, and television. He studied graphic design and photography at Plymouth College of Art and Leicester College of Arts before pursuing acting. He began his career with the Royal Shakespeare Company during the 1970s, performing in multiple productions in London and Stratford-upon-Avon. He made his screen debut in 1974 and his feature film debut in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only. He gained recognition for his work in period drama and established himself in prestige television, receiving an Emmy nomination for his performance in The Crown. He made his directorial debut with Ladies in Lavender, which he also wrote and executive produced. He was appointed an OBE in 2006 for his services to drama.
