Biography

Paul Butterworth grew up in West Yorkshire in a small village called Gildersome, five miles south-west of Leeds. His parents were Frank Butterworth (vicar) and Isabelle Butterworth (drama teacher). He attended Batley Boys Grammar school before the Central School off Speech and Drama (1974-1977) where he graduated from the drama teaching course in 1977. From Central he went straight into children's theatre, community theatre, the Royal Exchange Manchester and then TV. His debut TV role was in 180!!! as Toff (a BBC Play for Today). Following 180!!! he worked extensively in northern TV and film with regular roles for Granada TV, Yorkshire TV, and BBC North. His breakthrough part was Barry in the Full Monty. Paul next features as Richard (friends of the Beth) in Allelujah for Pathe. Allelujah was directed by Richard Eyre, screenplay by Heidi Thomas from a stage play by Alan Bennett, starring Jennifer Saunders, Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi, David Bradley, Julia McKenzie, Russel Tovey and Bally
