Biography

Markina DeShawn Brown an only child, was born and raised on Detroit's east side. As a child, she spent more than 15 years heavily training and competing in acrobatic gymnastics. During those years her appreciation for hard work, dedication, and discipline was born. Brown worked in several cities including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta as a TV news meteorologist, but in 2013 decided that her heart was in acting. Her respect for the craft of acting triggered that same discipline she learned as a gymnast, so she left her full-time TV news job and started training with some of the best and most respected acting coaches from New York, LA, London and Atlanta...and she's been going ever since. Brown has starred in various projects including American Skin (2019) alongside Nate Parker, Omari Hardwick and Beau Knapp. The film won Best Film in the Sconfini Section at the Venice International Film Festival in 2019.
