Bestselling author, veteran journalist, and new screenwriter. His latest true crime is "ShadowMan: An Elusive Psycho Killer and the Birth of FBI Profiling." His previous books include the best-selling true-crime "The Darkest Night" (2008) and literary fiction "Angel Fire" (1998), listed by the San Francisco Chronicle among the 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century West. His latest book is "The Sourtoe Cocktail Club," a funny, poignant, and true story about an extraordinary road trip with his teenage son to the Yukon, in search of a macabre cocktail containing a mummified human toe. Franscell's original screenplay DEAD & GONE was a quarter finalist for the Academy Awards' 2012 Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship. He has also adapted two of his novels, "Angel Fire" and "The Deadline" into screenplays, and a cable TV series based on his "Crime Buff's Guide" books is being developed. He also appears in occasional cable crime documentaries for Investigation Discovery and the History Channel.
