Challengers is Slutty, Intense, Magnificent

Why is tennis so damn sexy? Is it the outfits? Is it the heat from the overbearing sun beating down on sweaty, outstretched bodies? Is it the phallic nature of bouncing balls and swinging racquets? Maybe it comes from the innate tension created from the space between opponents. Or, to quote Zendaya's Tashi Duncan in Challengers, is it because tennis is not a game at all, “it's a relationship"? I was hesitant to watch Challengers in the same way that I'm hesitant to watch Babygirl. Sex sells and

Josh O'Connor's Instagram disappearance and the question of "queerbaiting"

Without any warning, Josh O'Connor deleted his Instagram account. For a rising film star, this incident defies logic: In recent years, Josh has become one of the most closely watched young actors in Hollywood. His performances in The Crown, as well as in films like God’s Own Country, La Chimera, and Challengers, have all been astonishing (with Challengers even placing him as a contender for the Best Supporting Actor race at next year’s Oscars). And his upcoming schedule is packed with projects b

Alejandro Franco "Arlequin": I believe that any actor can play any role he wants, the important thing is that he is a good actor. There are many cases of straight actors playing gay roles and gay actors playing gay roles (like Barney Stinson / Neil Patrick Harris). But I think that in the USA the discussion is becoming so radicalized to the point of reaching the ridiculous. It is already a war of ideologies where the battlefield is the internet, between ultra-conservatives and extremist liberals. Good article

Challengers: Tennis Is A Relationship

I know that "Challengers" hasn't received very high praise, at least not from the critics I follow, who are not very pleased with it. But I don't want to lie; "Challengers" is indeed the movie I've been most looking forward to and enjoyed the most in recent times. As a film that presents a complex love triangle through the lens of sports competition, it made my adrenaline and hormones surge simultaneously. Isn't that the most wonderful thing? Viewing "Challengers" as a sports movie is quite sati

'Challengers': A Different Kind of Love Triangle

From the trailers, Luca Guadagnino's "Challengers," starring Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist, seems like a typical love triangle set against the backdrop of the tennis world. The film follows the lives of three individuals, each with their own unique connection to the sport, as they navigate the complexities of their relationships. However, the film's approach to the love triangle and its character dynamics may differ from your expectations. Besides its strong sexual tension, the plot tak

'Challengers': An Insightful Deconstruction of Tennis Essence

Oddly, you can't name a single excellent tennis movie. Plenty of outstanding films about other sports, some even achieving the highest honors in cinematic history. Yet, there hasn't been a truly great tennis movie. Cue sports have "The Color of Money," basketball has "Hoop Dreams," and we don't need to mention baseball and football. Even track and field, a sport that barely requires any props, can snatch an Oscar for Best Picture. You don't need to argue with me; even the revered "Godfather of T
