James Gunn’s Superman Soars With Hope for a Fractured World

Superman begins with a scene normally left for some epic third-act twist: Our hero lies in the snow, bloody and bruised, minutes after he’s been defeated for the first time. His unruly yet lovable canine companion, Krypto, drags him to safety to his Arctic sanctuary, the Fortress of Solitude. It's a striking way to usher in a new cinematic era for the Man of Steel. He’s not just an unstoppable icon, but a man who can be broken and bruised. An outsider with as much vulnerability as he has humanit

DC discovered the anti-Snyder formula: "Super + Gunn"

Yes. I know. Bad Joke. The title sounds pretty strange, and it might even seem like it was pulled from one of those jokes craving approval and recognition to exhaustion in a James Gunn movie — but it's not. It's just a small declaration of self-love from this director, of his rising and unstoppable fame… and of acknowledging himself as the true and only savior of DC on the big screen after the monumental nosedive it suffered thanks to another guy who also kisses his own boots — and whose name an

Supplanting Superman: A Faltering Reboot in Search of First Principles

I think, therefore I am offered René Descartes a rock on which to build a metaphysics. Superman 2025 was supposed to give James Gunn an equally unshakable cornerstone for a fresh DC universe. Instead, the film looks around for a footing, finds none, and sinks beneath the silt of its own ambitions. From the first scene it is clear that Gunn wants relevance more than resonance. The script darts after every modern anxiety, social media pile-ons, algorithmic propaganda, proxy wars, yet never lingers

Look Up: SUPERMAN has finally arrived!

Superman finally arrived to the theaters and it‘s the old testament where James Gunn needs this to work in order to continue with his plan for DC Studios, and he finally cracks the code? YES, SUPERMAN IT‘S GREAT Superman takes place in a world where he is already an established superhero and there‘s metahumans living around and we skip his origin story, to fully show how Lex Luthor is trying to kill him in every way possible, and that‘s the only storyline that we follow and feels good to be back

Humanity is the real Superpower that makes Superman the greatest DC Super Hero!

Well well well. I thought it was going to be definitive for me that Henry Cavill was the epitome of the Man of Steel. He literally looks like he's made out of steel. But here comes James Gunn and David Corenswet locking on target with the heat vision at their bold take on Superman!! Let me get the frustration out of the way first. While it has nothing to do with the movie itself, but more in how they sell them. I saw it in the X Screen format that spreads the image all across your peripheral vis

Superman is the essential summer blockbuster

In one of my favorite scenes of the film, Superman (David Corenswet), is about to turn himself into the hands of the enemy. He's hurt and at his lowest; everyone but Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) is against him. But this is the only way to find his dog Krypto, who has been kidnapped. "He's not even a very good dog", Superman says with a smile. "But he's alone out there, and he's probably scared". For me, this was the moment writer and director James Gunn sealed the deal. This movie understands th

They Have the Chemistry! David Corenswet & Rachel Brosnahan Are Superman & Lois

According to an official announcement by James Gunn himself, the new Superman and Lois Lane for the DC Universe (DCU) have been confirmed! David Corenswet will portray Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane. These two actors have been highly anticipated since the casting stage, and they have indeed secured the roles. At 29 years old, David Corenswet perfectly fits the casting requirements previously revealed by Gunn. He has appeared in films and TV shows such as Pearl (2022), Insti

Wolverine meets Batman: The logical next step

Six years ago, the MCU culminated 11 years of stories by reuniting almost all of the characters we've met in the 21 films that had come out, in an event never seen before in cinema. Now in 2026 and 2027, seeking to surpass themselves, we will not only have the characters that we have seen in the 6 phases of the universe, but also characters from films older than the MCU, such as the X-Men of the 2000s. But what happens next? Once you've assembled all your superhero teams and their versions from

Serena Cuoghi: I like how you present this possible evolution of superhero cinema. The idea of a crossover between Marvel and DC would be amazing, especially if they take into account the concept of the first movie, with Onslaught as the catalyst and the interaction between heroes from both universes. The vision of the second part, with amalgamated characters, gives it an unexpected and exciting twist that could help them reconnect with audiences after all the missteps both universes have had with their latest movies. Hopefully, the studios will take a risk on something like this!
