Superman (2025) and Man of Steel: A tale of two masculinities

Spider-Man was the superhero of my childhood. Superman was the superhero of my young adulthood. I got really into Supes around 2015, when I was turning 18 years old. This is a crucial time for a young man. My actions and thoughts were unconsciously pushing me to one big question: what kind of man am I going to become? I recently saw James Gunn’s Superman and I loved it. That’s definitely the Super

I Finally GET Superman

I couldn't have cared less about Superman. Not just the new movie, the whole character. Growing up in the 2010s, I was totally consumed by the superhero craze. I saw everything from Avengers to the Dark Knight to frickin' Ghost Rider. But I'd never watched a single Superman movie. As long as I can remember, I've been aware of Superman's existence, but he just didn't interest me. He was overpowered

The Superman We Need Right Now

There are many reasons someone might walk into a Superman movie. For some, it’s nostalgia. For others, it’s loyalty to the DC universe, or perhaps the irresistible spectacle of a caped man flying into battle. But James Gunn’s Superman offers something rarer and, in my view, more urgent: an invitation to believe in goodness, not perfection, but genuine, compassionate goodness in a time when that be

Supplanting Superman: A Faltering Reboot in Search of First Principles

I think, therefore I am offered René Descartes a rock on which to build a metaphysics. Superman 2025 was supposed to give James Gunn an equally unshakable cornerstone for a fresh DC universe. Instead, the film looks around for a footing, finds none, and sinks beneath the silt of its own ambitions. From the first scene it is clear that Gunn wants relevance more than resonance. The script darts afte

The Fallen Red Cape

When the Son of Krypton returns to the big screen, he doesn’t bring a dawn of redemption but a twilight of creativity. James Gunn’s 2025 Superman, a film carrying the weight of DC’s hopes for a universe reboot, ends up as a dazzling yet hollow parade of symbols. Wrapped in retro nostalgia, it trades narrative depth for moral preaching and exposes the profound confusion plaguing superhero films in

James Gunn’s 'Superman' Soars With Hope for a Fractured World

Superman begins with a scene normally left for some epic third-act twist: Our hero lies in the snow, bloody and bruised, minutes after he’s been defeated for the first time. His unruly yet lovable canine companion, Krypto, drags him to safety to his Arctic sanctuary, the Fortress of Solitude. It's a striking way to usher in a new cinematic era for the Man of Steel. He’s not just an unstoppable ico

Humanity is the real Superpower that makes Superman the greatest DC Super Hero!

Well well well. I thought it was going to be definitive for me that Henry Cavill was the epitome of the Man of Steel. He literally looks like he's made out of steel. But here comes James Gunn and David Corenswet locking on target with the heat vision at their bold take on Superman!! Let me get the frustration out of the way first. While it has nothing to do with the movie itself, but more in how t

DC discovered the anti-Snyder formula: "Super + Gunn"

Yes. I know. Bad Joke. The title sounds pretty strange, and it might even seem like it was pulled from one of those jokes craving approval and recognition to exhaustion in a James Gunn movie — but it's not. It's just a small declaration of self-love from this director, of his rising and unstoppable fame… and of acknowledging himself as the true and only savior of DC on the big screen after the mon
