Alice Howland is a professor of linguistics at Columbia University and lives a fulfilling life of which she is proud. However, she is diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's disease. Now, Alice struggles to hold on to herself as her three children stand by her side helplessly as they watch their mother slowly experience the disease. Julianne Moore received an Oscar for her performance in this heartbreaking drama that, without being vulgar, proves to be deeply moving and raises important questions.
