Storyline:  Theodore, a lonely writer in near-future Los Angeles, buys a new AI operating system. He develops a deep emotional connection with Samantha, the voice of the AI, and begins a romantic relationship with her. But as societal norms, the limitations of the AI and Theodore's own emotional baggage begin to clash, Theodore's understanding of love and connection is challenged.
