The film begins with what appears to be real newsreel footage from the actual Port of Vigo shipyard riots. Police and protestors violently engage each other with tear gas, rocks, fists and feet. Burning barricades are seen, as are unconscious men.

The film's dialogue is replete with Spanish profanities, which the English subtitles render with high fidelity.

A major portion of the film takes place in a bar with characters drinking heavily.

Four men drink hard liquor while one of them is babysitting a toddler.

There is an extended, highly realistic riot scene in the opening credits (see above).

One scene examines at length the squalid living conditions of a character, who dwells in filth, without running water, heat or food. It is very moving and bleak.
