Some intense scenes

Some scenes are intense. This movie came out the same year the MPAA rating system was introduced.

Although ostensibly a musical comedy film, the movie has a quite dark and disturbing undercurrent, especially towards the end. There are several depictions of physical violence, death, attempted suicide, characters menacing other characters, emotional distress, and drug-like disorientation which fans of the Monkees' TV series may find unsettling and unpleasant (in a couple of instances, even shocking). It is not always clear whether scenes are intended to be comedic, and this ambiguity in tone could make some viewers uncomfortable.
