Storyline:  Bullied at school and mistreated at home by his indifferent mother and cruel older brother, 15-year-old Billy Casper, a working-class boy in Yorkshire, finds solace in taming and training a kestrel he names Kes. With the support of his teacher Mr. Farthing and some classmates, Billy discovers a sense of purpose—until an unforeseen tragedy shatters his fragile happiness.
