Storyline:  In early 19th-century Japan, young Dr. Noboru Yasumoto expects a prestigious post but is instead assigned to a rural clinic run by the strict Dr. Kyojô Niide, known as Red Beard. Resisting at first, Yasumoto confronts the harsh realities of poverty and illness, gradually learning through his mentor’s guidance and his care for Otoyo, a girl rescued from abuse.
