Storyline:  In Shenandoah, Virginia, widower farmer Charlie Anderson tries to keep his six sons and daughter away from the Civil War, insisting it is not their fight. But when his youngest, Boy, is wrongly taken prisoner by Union soldiers, Charlie and his sons set out to rescue him. As daughter Jennie marries Lieutenant Sam and life at the farm goes on, violence and tragedy inevitably reach the Anderson family.
