Storyline:  In fascist Slovakia during World War II, poor carpenter Tono is assigned to take over the small shop of Jewish widow Lautman. Believing he is just a helper, she hires him, and a fragile bond grows between them. When authorities order the expulsion of Jews from the city, Tono faces a fateful decision about the woman now under his care.
