Storyline:  Lieutenant Zadra leads 43 men during the final days of the Warsaw uprising in 1944. Facing German attacks and isolation, he is ordered to retreat through the sewers. Reluctantly obeying, the men and accompanying women realize their attempt to escape the battlefield’s hell brings only further death and suffering.
