Storyline:  After a family event, ten-year-old Apu and his mother move to a small Bengali village to live with a relative. Despite his mother's fears about this new beginning, Apu begins his studies at the local school, where he quickly excels as a great student. Upon graduation, he obtains a scholarship to study in Calcutta, and must face his new independence and the complex relationship he has with his mother. This is the second film in the Apu Trilogy.
