After a brief encounter in Monte Carlo, an introverted lady’s companion marries the wealthy widower Maxim de Winter and moves to his estate in Cornwall. There, she struggles to adjust, but the shadow of the late wife and the housekeeper’s hostility make it difficult for her to integrate into an environment still marked by the past.
