Day of Wrath (1943)

In a Danish village in 1623, an old woman named Marte is accused of witchcraft. Anne, a young woman married to the much older Pastor Absalon, shelters Marte briefly. Marte reveals to Anne that her own mother, once accused of witchcraft, was saved by Absalon. Anne, intrigued by her mother's supposed powers, becomes increasingly restless in her loveless marriage. When Absalon's son, Martin, returns home, Anne and Martin develop a forbidden attraction.
