Storyline:  In 1888 Tokyo, Kikunosuke Onoue, the adopted son of a renowned kabuki actor, struggles with the realization that his acting is only praised because of his father's legacy. The troupe ridicules him behind his back, except for Otoku, his infant brother's wet nurse. Despite the risk of scandal, Kikunosuke falls in love with Otoku. Determined to prove himself, Kikunosuke leaves Tokyo to forge his own path as an actor.
