Storyline:  A desperate gambler, drowning in debt and the demands of his greedy mistress, whispers in a Montparnasse café that he'd pay handsomely to have his wealthy aunt killed. An unseen listener silently agrees to the deal. Soon, the aunt is found murdered, and a hapless criminal, caught red-handed, seems the perfect suspect. But Inspector Maigret senses something far more sinister beneath the surface.
