Storyline:  Andy “Champ” Purcell, a washed-up former boxing champion, lives in poverty with his devoted young son Dink, who idolizes him despite his drinking and gambling. When Andy wins a racehorse, Dink meets kind-hearted Linda, not realizing she is his mother, who years earlier gave him up after divorcing Andy. Though Linda and her wealthy husband wish to take Dink in, Andy refuses, wanting to keep his son close. After losing everything and ending up in jail, Andy finally admits Dink deserves better and lets him go—only for Dink to run back, inspiring his father to make a last stand in the ring against the Mexican champion.
