Mamoru Oshii’s vision of future machinery is not overly futuristic, keeping all technological aspects within plausible limits, making this film more realistic compared to“ Ghost in the Shell”. The 1989 character designs have a distinctive mark of that era, but the settings are on par with contemporary animations.

What could be better than a list of the greatest 1,000 films of all time? A list of the top 5,000 films of all time. Its value, obviously, will be rather dependent on how you use lists. It is less likely to be a generator for recommendations as the 1,000 list (unless you adhere to the broad filters of decade, genre, etc. that Letterboxd creates). More likely, I expect, it will be seen as a very general marker for how far along the most voracious viewers are in their journey to watch everything worth watching. You may like to peruse…

I made comprehensive lists of all the movies I’ve seen from other genres, so why not As with all long lists, the top is ranked more precisely than the middle/bottom. Gonna be working on this one for forever probably, but it’s finally in a place where I at least feel comfortable making it public

I love animation. So much so that I studied it for four years at university and came out with an honours degree on the subject. So you can imagine how disheartening it is the fact that the majority of westerners (generally, at least) think the following: “Cartoons are for children” This basically causes a catch-22 effect; Western audiences think it because the animated shows and movies they see advertised are targeted exclusively to children and families for the most part. This leads to studios becoming reluctant to make animated movies for anyone other than children and families because they don’t…
