Storyline:  After the sudden death of her husband, Alice, a 35-year-old mom from New Mexico, sets out with her precocious 11-year-old son, Tommy, to start over. With dreams of reviving her singing career, she aims for her childhood in California. Along the way, Alice takes temporary jobs, including singing at a bar and working as a waitress in a lively diner. Through hardships and self-discovery, Alice learns to balance her aspirations with her role as a mother.
