Storyline: The Maysles brothers turn their cameras on Edith Bouvier Beale, nearly 80, and her daughter, Edie, two eccentric relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Secluded in Grey Gardens, a decaying East Hampton mansion they share with cats and raccoons, the pair live in a world entirely their own. Edith, sharp-tongued and witty, recalls her past as a society figure and singer, while Edie, endlessly talkative and flamboyant in her improvised “combat” outfits of scarves and tight ensembles, spins her own memories. Their conversations overlap, moving fluidly between present moments and decades-old events, revealing the peculiar bond of two women bound by circumstance, affection, and confinement.
