Storyline:  Former aristocrat Ippolit Vorobyaninov experiences impoverished circumstances in Soviet Russia. His dying mother-in-law discloses that she concealed valuable family diamonds within one of twelve chairs from their pre-revolutionary household. Vorobyaninov partners with opportunistic swindler Ostap Bender to locate the hidden gemstones. Their quest involves tracking the dispersed furniture across the transformed nation, navigating Soviet bureaucracy and competing treasure hunters while attempting to recover the concealed wealth from their aristocratic past in the new political order.
