The Lost Airman (Original) / The Lost Airman (US)
The story of Air Force Combat Controller Master Sergeant John A. Chapman. Chapman was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in the Battle of Takur Ghar where after fighting alone for many hours and receiving up to 12 gunshot wounds, he ultimately sacrificed his own life to protect the QRF sent in to rescue him. Although mortally wounded, Chapman willingly placed himself in an uncovered position where he provided cover for the helicopter carrying the QRF. Chapman finally succumbed after being shot in the heart. His selfless act saved 20 other servicemen. Based on the novel "Alone at Dawn" by Dan Schilling.
