On the Border, from the Distance (2016)

Breaking free from perspective, layers of images show frames within frames. Each picture steps from one space to another, flows from landscape to images, advances to moving images, pushes further into paintings, and finally lands on the pure spatiality. The exhibition is not only about the practice of viewing layered images progressively, but also an exercise to re-evaluate how time moves in a video. We have always considered moving images as a time experience that runs forward. The scope can be linear and straightforward, or curved and complex. Moving images all runs forward, from one end to the other, like a movie, a pop song or a living style. The video work does not suggest the order of linear time, and it offers no discernible dialogue or plot. Instead, the work whispers poetry-like narrations to bring viewers to a wander in time, reminding them of the ability of 'seeing'. That lingering, concentrated silence, and those paused time and space create invisible boundary to separate one from distractions in life. It is like roaming around the border, where everything seems to be scattered but complete, speechless but contented, present but formless. The meaning of the existence of memories and images lies in between.
