In a Dublin bachelor flat, the "almost" totally respectable Jo Mulligan is led astray by the more advanced Angela, believing he was actually the one leading her astray. His subsequent sense of guilt is partly religious and partly a sign of his own hypocrisy after the act. Worse things await him, however, when they are found out.
