Imran Bhatti, a New York cab driver, left Pakistan and his widowed mother there 15 years ago. He lives with an American wife, Kathy, in a convenience marriage for citizenship but is not happy. Salma is a hairdresser and effective single parent stuck in a marriage with a wayward husband, Sikander. She bumps into chatty, happy go lucky Imran a couple of times and is not impressed initially. Jamshed, Imran's nephew in Pakistan gets a 6 month tourist visa to the U.S. which is his dream come true. Despite warnings of a tough life from his uncle, he flies to America and has a difficult time establishing himself. His luck changes when he is hired by restauranteur, Michele, who takes a liking to him.
