An adaptation of the dark fantasy manga "Cat Eyed Boy" (1967-1976) by Kazuo Umezu. The protagonist is an unnamed monster boy, born to a Nekomata (cat-shaped yokai). For unknown reasons, the boy was born with both human and cat features. He is not accepted by either humans or monsters as one of their own kind. He becomes a wanderer. For his own reasons, the boy often defends humans from supernatural threats. But he is invariably seen as a threat by the humans, and he is unable to settle down with them.
