Many episodes include mentions of extra-marital affairs, cohabitation, infidelity, sexual harassment, etc. No actual sexual activity is ever shown. Frequently, episodes feature homosexual or lesbian relationships (some involving teenagers), though such relationships are rarely significant to the plot. Only one or two glimpses of nudity are shown, though not in a sexual context.

Frequent violent killings shown in great detail. Eg, stabbings, shootings, hangings. The violence gets more mild in late series's.

In nearly every episode, Vera & her team are investigating one or more murders, and the victims' bodies are shown at both the scene of the crime and in the police morgue. Occasionally, the actual attack is shown, though often it is only implied. There is usually some amount of blood, bruising, and wounds shown at the crime scene, but these are not especially gory or explicit. Victims are often shown on the post mortem table with stitches on their torso, bruising, stab wounds, etc. - again, not gory at all. Other mild violence is occasionally shown, such as fighting, shoving, slapping, etc.

An occasional "bloody" or "bastard." Otherwise no profanity to speak of.

One f-bomb in Series 11, Episode 1.

Mainly just "Damn", "Hell" and "Bloody" and rare uses of "Shit". Other British profanities are also occasionally heard. One use of "Fuck" in the whole series.

Alcohol is consumed in almost every episodes. Drugs are used sparingly, but do appear.

Especially in Series 1 and 2, tense scenes are very drawn out and are quite disturbing. There are several jump scare camera angles. There are no especially intense scenes post Series 3.
