The headmaster is exceptionally frightened of spiders and passes out at the sight of them. Some pupils plant a large tarantula in a box of chocolates which he is eating coursing him to crash his bicycle in a canal.

The headteacher is portrayed as a pipe smoker, he is frequently seen with the pipe in the breast pocket of is jacket, although he is never seen smoking it, there is a running gag throughout the series where school children steal his pipe as part of a dare.

The Headmaster is frequently shown to be adding a small drop of liquid from a hip flask to his coffee, it is implied that the liquid is alcohol.
