Storyline:  In late 19th-century Japan, socially awkward inventor Appare Sorrano dreams of sailing beyond the moon. After an accident strands him at sea with cowardly samurai Kosame Ishikki, a steamship rescues them and takes them to Los Angeles. Broke and stranded in America, they enter the Trans-America Wild Race: Appare to build his dream automobile, Kosame to win prize money for passage home. Against rival racers and wilderness dangers, the unlikely duo races across the continent toward their goals.
