While the first couple of episodes have almost no violence, the series takes a very gory turn near the end of season 1.
The beginning of the series isn't violent, but starting with the episode "Daddy!" the violence gets surprisingly strong after that, from decapitations, to dismemberment, to bloody explosions.
The violence is the only reason for the TV-MA rating, without the violence, it would probably be a kids show.
