Dong Fang Di Wang Gu is a large-scale epic documentary co-produced by CCTV, the Propaganda Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee, the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, and the Shaanxi Culture Industry Investment Group. The documentary takes imperial tombs, historical sites and cultural relics in Shaanxi as its basic resources, exploring the fate of a tomb's owner, the rise and fall of dynasties behind a tomb's owner, and the growth of civilizations as interpreted by one dynasty. Whether it is the ritual and music civilization of the Zhou, the institutional culture of the Qin and Han Dynasties, or the vast openness of the Tang Empire and the poetry and dance that have lasted for generations to come, all have had an indelible impact on the birth and growth of China.
