Specter of La Sirene del Crescente All In an Inheritance © 2024 Sai Marie Johnson On the longest day of the year, a town revives an ancient solstice ritual and discovers its unexpected power... My mind was reeling on strange intrusive thoughts - so much that the tapping sound of my pen as I dazed at the page before me had become a steady and rhythmic distraction. One that after a few moments finally occurred to me as I shook off my daydream. The art commission I had intended to complete within t

The Tributary: a Story Excerpt From a Dream I had

Last Spring, I had this really weird and vivid dream, and afterward my brother and I took a drive through the country and found ourselves in the town of Monroe, Oregon. Monroe, is the name of a character in the television show Grimm and I always think of how the town inspired the writer of the series in its creation but that day I hadn't expected to roll into town and spot an old abandoned and decrepit house that looked eerily similar to the one I had dreamt about. I came to discover that not fa

Let's Get to Know Each Other!

It struck me that we don't really have a space for proper introductions here, and I think that might lead to some misunderstandings. It's hard to truly connect and appreciate each other's perspectives when we don't know who's behind the posts, what we do, or what our journeys in the creative entertainment industry have been like. So, I'll go first! I'm a screenwriter, an author, and a poet. My professional background is deep and varied; I've screenwritten for clients across commercials, podcasti

Secrets of the Day: My 90 Minute Screenplay ;) © Sai Marie Johnson, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

Please keep in mind that these are excerpts that are deliberately left out of order to show my talent, but not give the entire screenplay away. The Screenplay has already been looked over by a Producer/Director, Buffalo8 Studios and The Blacklist Again, it needs no polishing nor pointers from any other persons for construction and has been readied for investors to be made as it is full and complete. It has been industry critiqued many times, and given high marks. It's also listed on Stage32. The

Deportations and a Pandemic by Sai Marie Johnson - Another Potential Movie Idea?

Photo by Miko Guziuk on Unsplash Imagine that everything you ever believed in all came to a halt – in just one day. A full twenty-four hours, and that was what the outcome of the deportation had caused. Geraldo didn’t see it coming, and neither did any of the other four men who had been carted away by angry ICE agents who didn’t seem to care whether they scraped them up all along their arms as they drug them toward their detention van. Totaling five, Geraldo still hadn’t gotten any clear answers

LIFE: Old Movie, New Favorite!

This last weekend my brother told me about a movie he really likes called Life. This came out in 1999, but I had never heard of it until he mentioned it to me and I decided to give it a shot at watching on - strangely enough at the same time that Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence announced they are now family; in-laws due to their children eloping. Evidently, Eddie's son chose to elope to marry Martin's daughter, and now they are one big, happy family. This is pretty awesome considering the amoun

Now & Then: A Peek into the Transition from Adolescence Into Adulthood

On October 20, 1995, one of my favorite movies came out, and it's been a steadfast one that has remained one of my favorites on the topic, “Coming of Age On-Screen.” Another Honorable Mention I must insert before I go on is Stand By Me, based on the Stephen King book, filmed in Brownsville. The movie that I liken it to is Now and Then. The synopsis gives a hint at some of the legendary people who created this beautiful film: Three strong women: Roberta Martin (Rosie O'Donnell), Samantha Albertso

Opus: A Spectacle of Shock & Awe

I was pleasantly surprised by Opus from A24, and I have to hand it to them with every new release of theirs I've watched, I've found myself starting to really note that I enjoy the material this studio puts out. Opus is a weird movie, but in all the best ways, and if you are intrigued by the prospect of cult leaders in open public admiration - you'll appreciate seeing John Malkovich in the role of Alfred Moretti. I found one scene especially funny, and that is when Ms. Ecton directly asks Morett

The Legend...Wax On, Wax Off ~ Karate Kid

This movie…it's good from where it starts with showing Jackie Chan and following up from The Karate Kid which Jaden Smith was in opposite Jackie in 2010. And the premise from there is great, but when Jackie's character goes to see Mr. Miyagi and steps in front of his memorial shrine, all the waterworks I never anticipated came pouring forth, and I was glued to the screen. It's a beautiful movie, and it fully encompasses so many aspects of martial arts history and legend that make it one of the i

Is the Mission truly over?

I watched Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which was different from what I expected. I'm not sure if they borrowed some concepts from Scientology in this one, but they pulled on some of Tom's previous work, such as Minority Report. The movie poses some interesting prospects considering super AIs and what they have the potential to do. It's almost like it was an anti-Matrix storyline that brought things back into perspective, as that coincides with a time where AI is taking over pretty
