The visuals look so outdated that I felt like I was watching some random old film. It's honestly not doing the movie any favor. Jessica Chastain put on a great performance, and it got even better in the later parts. I like her because she knows exactly what to do with her character, and her acting also reflects her understanding of what the movie is trying to convey. In order to portray the character better, she undergoes a transformative makeup which does have an impact on her natural facial expressions. At the same time, it is an opportunity to become more in tune with the character herself. In the end, she successfully delivered an amazing performance of passion, will, and refined techniques, making her innocent yet complex character fully come to life. When you start to understand the kind of excitement she experiences after countless failures, you will truly be moved.
Better than what I expected. The movie is rather entertaining, especially the different phases of life of the two protagonists as their faith and personal interests are being challenged. However, the film tries to cover too many subjects, resulting in a lack of focus. Both protagonists delivered outstanding performances, and the makeup added to the portrayal of the characters as well. Interestingly, the makeup somehow made them look like a couple.
A competent biopic with a steady progression of the plot which eventually reaches a climax towards the end. Jessica Chastain's acting, with the help of the special makeup, really nails the portrayal of the character. I can't imagine how terrifying it must be when a hypocrite holds on to the belief that there is righteousness in what he does.
The makeup and performances are top-notch. However, I started the movie not knowing who Tammy Faye was, and still didn't have a clue after the movie ended. So the emphasis on her eyes is a way to highlight her innocence and eccentricity? What actually made her preachings so charismatic and successful? Where is the analysis of her complicated attitude towards faith? Is she the wife of a closeted man? What's the main point regarding the extensive depiction of her failed marriage in the film? The script is shallow and lacks layers, the directing is mediocre, and the emphasis is confusing. I think Jessica Chastain should focus on acting rather than being a producer. Her performance truly deserves an award.
She proves that she's still one of the best, unleashing an astonishing performance. The biopic is well-crafted in a retro color palette. While the content does not dig deeply enough, Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield deliver powerful performances that make the characters more convincing. She maintains an optimistic attitude no matter what she goes through. We all know that life is imperfect and we can't always get what we want. When she finds herself in deep waters at the end, Tammy's resilience and discontent are accurately portrayed by Jessica Chastain. And Jessica Chastain is truly devoted to her work, even suffering permanent skin damage while filming this movie. How heartbreaking!
It feels like a missed opportunity with this subject matter, primarily due to two aspects. Firstly, Tammy is not clearly defined. Be it acknowledging her impact on popular culture, mocking her naivety and imperfect marriage, or how accepting she was towards social issues like LGBT rights, AIDS, and poverty despite her background and status, these stories are merely recounted without fully bringing the character to life. Secondly, a similar narrative exploration has been done in HBO's The Righteous Gemstones, and there are also other recent outstanding documentaries. However, the film's style is unclear - sometimes leaning towards period comedy and other times resembling a musical, detracting from Chastain's efforts in singing by herself. Because she is no longer playing the familiar "shero" type role she's known for, she has redefined herself and added a touch of humor to entertain the audience. Despite the mishmash of styles in the makeup and costumes, all the efforts put into the character are not in vain.
This should be Jessica Chastain's most Oscar-worthy performance. Indeed, biopics are best at showcasing an actor's abilities, and it's pleasantly surprising to see how much more expressive and controlled Andrew Garfield has become after honing his skills on stage. The film may appear to be a straightforward biopic, but the complexity of Tammy Faye, the infiltration of Christianity in America, and how it affected significant historical changes create a wondrous allegory. Regardless of how she became an LGBT activist (that interview segment is fantastic), Tammy Faye was still a woman who became "blind" due to her faith, yet also gained conviction through it. The power and powerlessness within her are perhaps the source of both radiance and conflict in her eyes.
Gostei muito.Só mais impressionante que a performance da Jessica Chastain é o trabalho da equipe de maquiagem desse filme, a transformação é absurda.
