Intenso y visceral.

It's impossible to deny the talent and creativity put into this film by Mel Gibson and everyone involved. This is an underrated masterpiece. The conceptualization, casting, pacing, set design, and historical accuracy are all amazing. This movie is worth watching just for the 10 minutes of ancient Mayan city scenes with completely realistic sets. It's so breathtaking that you simply immerse yourself in the world, forgetting the fact that you are watching a movie.
Just a ridiculously thrilling action film, an absolutely gorgeous and viciously entertaining story told through blood-squirting, bone-crunching violence. Also, that POV shot of a head being cut off is sooo wild.
Who would've thought that Mel Gibson, with all his issues, could create such a rich tapestry of an ancient culture? "Apocalypto" is two straight hours of the most intense, nail-biting, ferocious, balls-to-the-wall film I have seen so far this year. Mel Gibson might just be the best director of all time when it comes to visceral, bone-crunching stories like this. For the entire duration of the run-time, I was tense, thrilled, sickened, and blown away by how well-made this film was. I can't believe I put this film off for so long. It’s a masterpiece!
It’s a potent combination of amazing sets, intricate designs, and adrenaline-pumping action sequences. It's simply gorgeous as it is brutal.
How this is not considered one of the finest action movies of the decade is beyond me. It is brutal, impactful, and exhilarating, and it portrays a world so vivid that I was simply speechless at times. The costumes, the Mayan artifacts, the jungle, the temples—everything is perfect. The film juggles emotions and violent action sequences wonderfully. It's a powerful movie with super tight pacing. One of my all-time favorites. I wish people could look beyond whoever Gibson is in private and see him for the brilliant master director he can be. Also, I hope his Viking film will see the light of day sometime. It would be epic.
Almost every shot is incredibly powerful, evoking such a strong sense of the era to the point where all the praise and critique of this movie feel insufficient. The scenes of sacrifice are particularly impactful. Despite its length, the pacing is tight and compact.
